Home appliances stand for approximately 50% of energy consumption in a household. There is consequently a very large energy savings potential for a family to use energy efficient appliances in an eco-friendly way. Siemens contributes with innovations and new technology in the ‘One Tonne Life’ household, so that the family, considering the environment, does not compromise their own comfort. Our ambition with this project is to learn more about how much energy can be saved by correct use of our appliances, as well as obtaining ideas on how we can develop new even more energy-saving products.

During the last 15 years, Siemens has decreased our appliances’ energy consumption by an average of between 40 to 80 percent – and the figures for energy and water consumption in the most efficient products are world class.

Washing machine

This washing machine has a brushless and so wear-free motor controlled by sophisticated solid- state electronics. It’s nothing less than the most energy efficient, fastest, quietest and most durable motor we have ever built. The washing machine consumes 30 % less energy than an energy class A. Furthermore, the machine has a capacity of 8 kg laundry and an anti crease steam function.

Tumble dryer

Siemens most energy efficient tumble dryer is equipped with a heat pump and consequently only consume half as much energy as a conventional tumble dryer. The combination of an even air stream and the heat pump technology, the same efficiency can be maintained on a lower temperature level. More energy efficiency and gently drying are direct results of the low temperature.

Fridge & freezer

The new Siemens’ innovation coolConcept consists of larger and better organised fridges which are more energy efficient, A++. Due to flexible cooling circuits and advanced technology, the energy consumption is reduced, and because of the new placement of compressor and ventilation system these products also offer more room for groceries.

Dishwasher

Dishwasher ecoStar2 use as little as 7 litres of water per wash and is equipped with Zeolite; a patented Siemens innovation that due to its ability to absorb moisture and convert it into heat energy requires the dishwasher to consume a mere 0.73 kWh/wash in the economy 50˚ C programme. The dishwasher is a world first and will be introduced to the Swedish market in April.

Hood

A telescopic pullout hood with re-circulated operation (carbon odour filter). This hood is equipped with a new fantastic Siemens innovation, the cleanAir module; this module purifies the air from fumes up to 95%. The advantage of using a recirculation hood is that they are very energy efficient as the heated air is purified and kept inside the house, unlike the ducted operation extractor hoods.

Oven

Siemens hot air oven with built-in meat probe and cookControl; 68 automatic cooking programmes help you prepare perfect meat, fish and vegetables. Just select the programme, enter the weight and the oven takes care of the rest.

Induction hob

Induction hob with frying- and cookingSensor. These smart sensors ensure that the selected temperature is accurately maintained at the correct level, automatically. And the sensor control means no boiling over, no overcooking, burning or oil overheating. It saves energy too, because only the exact amount of energy is used. Induction is the most energy efficient way to cook

When will the technology be available

The home appliances in the “One Tonne Life” project are already in the Siemens eco PLUS range and will be available at your nearest home appliance retail store.
